Sights
In the center of the city, you can visit the church museum, the church of Agios Nikolaos, patron of Parga and walk the picturesque alleys to buy souvenirs and local products.
To the east of it lies the Venetian castle with many buildings in it, located on a fortified hill-cape on the right side of the city, at the entrance of the port and accessible by narrow streets and stairs.
To the west is the Byzantine Monastery of Vlacherna, composing a magnificent backdrop of the waters of June.
About 15 kilometers from Parga, there is the most important ancient monument in the area, the ancient necromancy of the river Acheron. Here the ancients believed that the gates of the Lower World were leading to the kingdom of Hades. At this point Hermes was leading the souls, which were then received by the boatman-Charonas to cross them across the lake of Aquarius, at the bottom of which was the kingdom of Pluto- Hades and Persephone.
Ali Pasha Castle is located on a hill between the villages of Anthousa and Agia, 5 kilometers north of Parga. It is a massive and imposing building which has been kept in very good condition. Just in front of the port of Parga, in a very short distance, is the island of Panagia, which owes its name to the church of Panagia with its characteristic bell tower, located there. At the highest point of the island there is a beautiful French castle.
